You quite certainly imagine a typical accordionist to be different. The violent and unleashed way of playing of the exceptional Finnish artist Kimmo Pohjonen has an effect on highly sensitive dispositions, as if he would strangle his instrument before their eyes. For Pohjonen, three times chosen as “Finland’s folk musician of the year” and involved in more than 70 albums, does not just play the accordion, he celebrates it like no other person. And thus the catchphrase of the “Jimi Hendrix of the accordion” also inadequately describes Pohjonen, the phenomenon. With live loops and sample effects, he and his musicians mix usual sounds of the accordion and string quartet to be spectacular sound characteristics reinforced by light effects, whose fascination you cannot evade.
