There is no end to outstanding places of interest and attractive destinations for excursions in Brandenburg. Landscapes, museums and monuments offer a fascinating insight into the region's
history. Country churches, convents and monasteries, places of memorial, technical monuments and museums are open to visitors. The traces of the past date back hundreds and even thousands of years – evidence of development and history that comes to the fore not just in the landscape but also in cultural and technical feats.

Take a trip, for example, to the farmer brickworks at
Ziegeleipark Mildenberg which was once Europe's largest brickwork region – this is where technology and brickwork history can be experienced. The gigantic
ship lift in Niederfinow on the other hand, was an incredible feat of engineering. Today, barges and leisure boats are still raised and lowered 36 metres - something that has to be seen to be believed. A trip to the impressive open-cast
mining region in Niederlausitz with its fascinating landscape tells the story af brown coal mining and shaws haw the landscape took shape.

In strong contrast to this, for example, is the untouched countryside which can be found in the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reservation in the north-east of Brandenburg. The
Spreewald is also unique: With 970 km of waterways, this biosphere reservation is unique in Europe – a labyrinth of rivers and streams that can be best explored in a punting boat. This is the cultural home of the Sorbs and Wends, a Slavic minority with its very own language and tradition.
