F 60 – Conveyor Bridge with French charm

Landscapes that seem bizarre to the visitor and masterly performances of technical engineering: these two elements meet in the open-cast lignite mining of Lower-Lusatia, which is located in the southern part of Brandenburg. The F 60 Conveyor Bridge in the remaining pit of the Lichterfeld open-cast mine is one of these masterpieces and is evidence of the radical changes to the countryside with the extraction of fossil fuels. The steel colossus seems like an Eiffel Tower that is lying in the countryside and is the most recent, most modern and the tallest open-cast mining giant in the history of Lusatian mining and impresses with a length of 500 metres, a height of 80 metres and a weight of 13,500 tons. You can admire this globally unique landscape as well as the gigantic lignite mining technology at the visitors’ centre and also while doing a tour on the conveyor bridge.
