Neuzelle Monastery, with its two churches, its buildings designed in the baroque style and its monastery garden, is one of the most extensive architectural monuments in the baroque style in Northern and Eastern Germany. The monastery complex, located in proximity to the river Oder and in an area that is scenically attractive, is regarded as one of the few intact testimonials to Cistercian architecture in Germany and Europe. The baroque monastery garden, which was laid-out by the Neuzelle abbots and monks during the 17th and 18th centuries, is a unique garden monument for Brandenburg and contains a variety of original baroque stylistic elements. These include in particular, in addition to the original stock of trees and plants and the structure of the space and the paths, the water reservoir, the baroque orangery and also the terrace. In addition, a real monastery brewery invites you to a tour and a tasting of the monastery’s own dark beer produced here in Neuzelle and which has already refreshed many a monk’s throat . Only a few kilometres away, the stroller reaches the valley of the river Schlaube, which stretches well over 30 kilometres and suddenly stands in one of Brandenburg’s most beautiful nature reserves with its romantic courses of creeks and lonely lakes that are surrounded by forests.
