The Niederfinow Ship’s Lift – technology that inspires

The Niederfinow Ship’s Lift Here, to the northeast of Berlin, mountains are moved: the Niederfinow Ship’s Lift is a technical masterpiece. From the shore, the difference in altitude that has to be surmounted is an impressive sight: the ships are moved into an elevator in order to then be transported from the Oder-Havel Canal into the Old Oder. From there, the barges sail in the direction of Poland. Even if a freighter weighs 1,200, it only takes the Niederfinow Ship’s Lift five minutes before it has surmounted a difference in altitude of 36 metres. But possible observers need not even sign on with a freighter to experience this spectacle: passenger ships run every day from the nearby town of Eberswalde to take technology fans and anyone who loves a beautiful view to Niederfinow Ship’s Lift.
