Rüdersdorf is the largest lime mining town in Europe and an impressive place of industrial prime. The museum centre provides information on the development of the lime works, where mining still goes on today. In the “Haus der Steine” (house of stones), a permanent exhibition shows the geology of the Rüdersdorf lime deposits and allows people an insight into the “picture book of earth’s history”. After eventful guided tours through the former muschelkalk sea and the feeding grounds of bats, farmhouse food awaits you in the chalk barn. In addition, the museum centre outside the gates of Berlin provides historic and geological guided tours through the former open-cast mine, the collecting of genuine fossils as well as special trips with Land Rovers and mountain bikes through the rugged white lime landscape.
