Tour 3 + 4: Between lagoons and the open-cast mining landscape

From Königs Wusterhausen, the route leads via the A13 motorway to Spreewald, which is the largest system of lagoons in Europe. On the way through the Dahme Lake District, which is very popular with water tourists, a tropical world that is unique in Germany is touched upon - Tropical Islands – which invites you to admire and bathe. Arriving at Lübbenau, you follow the main road in the direction of Spreewald Harbour. From here start 2-8-hour trips with punts through Europe’s unique landscape of lagoons.
Depending on how long you have exposed yourself to the calming effect of the Spreewald natural paradise, you either stay the night in Lübbenau or spend the evening in Cottbus, the capital of Lower Lusatia. There, you can go for a stroll to the Altstadtmarkt (market square in the old town centre) and stop off somewhere or sweeten the evening culturally with a visit to the Cottbus State Theatre. Romantic people, however, conclude it with a typical Spreewald dinner in Lehde Museum Village, which is 2km away from Lübbenau. The fresh and natural charm of Spreewald can be experienced in few other places in the same way.
After the visit to Tropical Islands at midday, the alternative programme for the industry and technology enthusiasts would be to spend the rest of the day in the bizarre lignite landscape of Lower Lusatia. There, you will find highlights such as Eurospeedway, the “Prince-Pückler-Land” International Building Exhibition (IBA), the F60 Lignite Conveyor Bridge or the Snowtropolis Indoor Skiing Dome at Senftenberg.
