The observation point is located in an extensive meadow area in the Rhin-Havelluch north of Nauen. The area near Utershorst is a pre-gathering spot for the cranes: they rest here for hours in the late afternoon before returning to their roost at nightfall. On some days up to 15,000 birds can be seen here. Bean geese, white-fronted geese and whooper swans occasionally fly over the meadows. Occasionally you can spot Montagu’s harriers or rough-legged buzzards out hunting.
