After more than 20 years of beauty sleep, a place that has accompanied many generations in Guben for years was kissed awake again. Many Guben residents learned writing, reading, arithmetic and made lifelong friends at the former Wilhelm Pieck School. But the Pieck School in Guben was not just any school; when it was founded in 1951/52, it was considered the most beautiful and most modern school in the GDR. Many Guben residents are rightly proud of this magnificent building in the middle of the city to this day. The Gubener Sozialwerke gave the listed building a new purpose and converted it into a modern nursing center between 2021 and 2024. The former classrooms came back to life. The former auditorium became the stylish Restaurant & Café Wilhelm. With regional dishes, as well as home-baked cakes and tarts, it invites you to spend a special coffee afternoon and a pleasant atmosphere to linger.
