Experience Germany’s first garden city “Marga” that was designed by Georg Heinsius von Mayenburg in the late Art Nouveau style and that was completed in 1917. The garden city Marga and its entire infrastructure was built as a works housing estate for the mining company Ilse Bergbau AG.

Owing to the rapid development of mining at the time, there was strong demand for housing for workers and public officials. The garden city is characterised by Dresden’s reform architecture and elements in the late Art Nouveau style.

It has meanwhile been fully refurbished and it once again shines in its original splendour. The tour focusses on the various façade designs, different house sizes and the market square ensemble with the school, department store and the inn “Kaiserkrone”.

After the tour, visitors can see an exhibition about the garden city on the former bowling alley of the “Kaiserkrone”.

Dates are published annually, in the event calendar. Please factor in about two hours for the tour. Make sure to book the tour in a timely manner, and no later than on the day before, by contacting the tourist information centre in Senftenberg.

Individual tours can be booked for groups of at least ten people.
