Hike in the Loben moorland around Hohenleipisch. The “Loben” nature reserve is a lowland moor that is about 100 hectares big. Nature lovers are particularly attracted by the old peat ditches by the “moor line” that are now covered in water lilies. Lucky visitors may spot various water birds, such as families of swans and various types of duck. The Loben is well-worth a visit in any case. Water is the life elixir of any moor, and in the past the water was “dug away” also in the Loben. Typical lowland moor plants including cotton grass, sundew, wild rosemary and bell heather are now spreading across the moorland once again. Swamp frogs, cranes and sea eagles have also returned to the area.
