“Down with the dyke! Long live the dyke!” This seems to be the motto in this place. Explore the old section of the dyke, pass by a floodplain forest that is still in its infancy and enjoy the views over the River Elbe, which again was given more space to spread here. This model nature conservation project was the first of its kind in Germany and once again shows how nature conservation also benefits the cultural landscape and the people. The floodplain area that has been created protects against flooding and is a habitat for many animals and plants at the same time. Grazing sheep and horses are used for landscape conservation purposes. A great area where there is a lot to see! Take a walk along the seven kilometre long hiking trail.
