The station at the southern entrance to Rheinsberg has not issued tickets since June 1996. Founded in 1997, the association AG Rheinsberger Bahnhof is made up of active and former railway employees and has been able to restore the station. The locomotive shed is now used to display disused vehicles and other railway equipment.
Exhibits include a Kö II small locomotive, a Berlin underground carriage from 1927, an SKL 25 and various railway carriages, including a former nuclear transport carriage. The locomotive 52 8177 belonging to the friends’ association Dampflokfreunde Berlin was refurbished in Meiningen in 1998, allowing special steam trips to be made to Rheinsberg. Every Tuesday, the collection of railway technology, tickets and documents is displayed in the locomotive shed. Guided tours are possible on other days by appointment.
