One of the most beautiful cycle paths in the eastern part of Germany also runs through the Seenland Oder-Spree lake district before ending on the outskirts of Berlin: the Spree Cycle Path. Cycling enthusiasts looking for a relaxed cycling tour can enjoy a really varied scenic trip on this bicycle tour to Spree Athen or “Athens on the Spree River” during the stage from Beeskow to Fürstenwalde. You can take the RE1 regional express train from Berlin via Frankfurt (Oder) to Beeskow, where the tour starts. You should first take a tour around the old town before your start out on the bicycle tour. The former moated castle dating back to the 13th century offers sensational views over the countryside from its 27-metre high tower. Beeskow Castle offers many events for cultural enthusiasts today in addition to the art archive dating back to the former German Democratic Republic. The historic market square, the long town wall and St. Marienkirche church bear witness to medieval tradition.

The bicycle tour now takes you directly alongside the quiet flowing Spree River. The flat route is not strenuous and gives you enough time to enjoy the beauty of the river's course and the riverside landscape with its beautiful nature. The places you pass through are lined up in a row one after the other like a string of pearls. It may be that you come across an otter or fox or a culinary recommendation for when you reach Fürstenwalde: Zunfthaus 383 in the town's narrowest building. Fürstenwalde beer is also highly recommended.

You will come across herons on the banks of the river if you keep your eyes open as you ride through the area. You will get a wonderful view of Lake Kersdorfer See just after Kersdorf Bridge. You can cross over the Oder-Spree Canal just behind it at an impressive wooden bridge designed for cyclists. It's worthwhile taking a break to have a delicious cake at the Landgasthof Spreetal country restaurant and beer garden in Berkenbrück. Here you can cool off during the trip by taking a dip in the Spree River. You should definitely plan to visit the cathedral in Fürstenwalde at the end of the route.

Start: Beeskow railway station
Finish: Fürstenwalde railway station
