Explore the Neiße River: You get into the boat (canoe, kayak or inflatable boat) in Guben at the Neiße terraces and let yourself drift downstream, past pristine countryside, away from the stresses of everyday life. With a little luck you will discover herons, beavers and kingfishers. Depending on the water level, there are many sandbanks ideal for taking a little break.

Finish: Ratzdorf, where the Neiße flows into the Oder

How to get there:
  • Public transport: Take the RE1 (Cottbus) from Berlin central station to Guben (about 2 hours).
  • Car: From Berlin via the A113, A12 and B112 to Guben (about 2 hours).

Route: Guben Neiße terraces - wooden bridge to the Gubin theatre island - Grunewald Guben - railway bridge to Guben-Zbaszynek (Poland) - close to Groß Breesen - road bridge Coschen-Zytowan - close to Breslack - Krzesiński Park Krajobrazowy (Poland) - place where Neiße flows into the Oder/Odra at Ratzdorf - little water gauge house in Ratzdorf

On-shore outings:

  • Guben: Gubin town and main church, Guben monastery church, Guben town and industrial museum, Plastinarium exhibition, Neiße terraces
  • Ratzdorf: Picnic at the foot of the water gauge house, tour of Ratzdorf

Nautical information: Downstream with a relatively high current (5-6 kilometres/hour). You’re best off to paddle or let yourself drift downstream - all you need to do is steer a little. This section has no weirs or locks. The Neiße is not navigable by motor boat.
