The route is enjoyable even for experienced paddlers, who are likely to find more time for savouring the views than novice paddlers.

Finish: Lebus
Length/duration: 20 kilometres / about 4 hours

How to get there:
  • Public transport: From Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof), take the RE1 to Frankfurt/Oder, then the RB11 (Cottbus) to Brieskow-Finkenheerd (about 1.5 hours)
  • Car: From Berlin, take the motorways A113, A10 and A12 to Brieskow-Finkenheerd (about 1.5 hours)

Return journey:

  • Car: Walk to Schönfließ from Lebus (about 4 kilometres), then take bus no. 968 to Frankfurt/Oder. From here, take the train RB11 (Cottbus) to return to your car in Brieskow-Finkenheerd (about 1.5 hours)

Tour description:

The boat is lowered into the water at the rest and bivouac area Brieskow-Finkenheerd on the shore of Lake Brieskower See. From here you take off in the direction of the Oder.  The ‘steep wall’ of Lossow is an impressive sight: About 100 bird species use the 60 metres high cliff on the edge of the lake as a breeding ground. From the point you enter the Oder, you will feel a slight downstream current that will assist you as you travel towards Frankfurt/Oder.

You will pass the narrow island Ziegenwerder before entering the big city Frankfurt/Oder. A stop on shore to take a walk in the park on the island with its various sights and all the way to the campus of Viadrina University is very worthwhile. Once you are back on the water, you will pass underneath the three bridges that connect the two cities on the border.

The former bishop’s seat Lebus and the destination of the tour is particularly attractive to those who love pheasant's eyes. The pretty flowers are in bloom on the shallow hillsides along the Oder from the end of March until mid-May, lending them a very special charm.

Nautical information: The tour is slightly challenging. The ship traffic, breakwaters and the current of the Oder require keen attention and canoeing experience. It is possible to dock on either shore and to step onto German or Polish soil.
