The tour is ideal for water tourers who appreciate a very quiet area and seeing a diverse flora and fauna along the way. There are two locks on the route. There are a range of options to stop on the shore at various bathing areas, and of course in Storkow.

Length/duration: 14 kilometres (1 day)

Start/finish: Storkow (Mark) or Wendisch Rietz

How to get there:
  • Public transport: Take the RE2 (Cottbus) from Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) to Königs Wusterhausen. From here, take the RB36 (Frankfurt/Oder) to Storkow/Mark (about 1.5 hours).
  • Car: From Berlin via the A10 and A12 to Storkow (about 1 hour).

Tour description: You can start the canoe tour either next to the lido at Lake Storkower See, at the Karlslust beach, or at the ‘Wolfstouren’ boat rental company in Wolfswinkel. Lake Storkower See is well-known among water enthusiasts, as a destination for motor boating and sailing. You will paddle across the oblong-shaped lake towards Wendisch Rietz. A special highlight of the tour is travelling past the Hubertushöhe hunting lodge that was built in 1903. Before travelling along a canal to get to the southern tip of beautiful Lake Scharmützelsee, you will go through your first self-service lock in Wendisch Rietz. You continue to go through a stream and turn into Lake Großer Glubigsee. Here you will find the lock ‘Schleuse am Fischhaus’ that is currently not in service. You therefore have to carry your canoe past the lock.

If you wish, ‘Wolfstouren’ will pick up your canoe at the Glubigsee lock. Paddling on Lakes Springsee and Glubigsee is super tranquil, as no motor boats are permitted here.

Stops on the shore:

  • Storkow: Castle, inland dune, salt marshes, observation tower, hands-on activities at ‘Irrlandia’, bicycle curiosity museum
  • Wendisch Rietz: Recreational park with petting zoo, mini golf facility, ceramics studio, lock
  • Hubertushöhe hunting lodge: Art and culture park

Nautical information: Always close to the shore from Storkow, then along Storkower canal until you reach the Wendisch Rietz lock (self-service lock), bear right after the lock to go towards the Glubigsee lock (please note: the lock is only operated four times a day, it is possible to carry the canoe past the lock, lock not in service as of 2014!), only muscle-powered boats are permitted after the lock
