Route description: The unique charm of this tour lies in its diversity and variety as you walk near the banks of the River Spree. It is bordered by large meadow lands, but there a lots of old oak trees here too, and the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. In contrast to the peaceful landscape, Fürstenwalde is a modern town that still retains signs of its medieval past. The “Markgrafensteine” boulders, relics from the last Ice Age found in the Rauen Hills, point back into the distant past. There is an exhibition about them in the Markgrafenhof in Rauen itself. The highest point of the hike is in the Rauen Hills, where you have a broad view across Lake Scharmützelsee from a height of 150 metres.
