The early Gothic church is the oldest building in the village center of Herzfeld. It was built in 1242 as a fortified church under the patronage of Cistercian monks from granite blocks. Already in the years 1846, 1858 as well as 1901/1904 there were various renewals and rebuildings of the church. One of the special features of the church is the striking bell tower with a wall thickness of almost two meters. Inside the church you can see an organ from 1868 by the Berlin organ builder Ferdinand Dinse and a late Romanesque baptismal font made of limestone from the 12th/13th century.
