One might look around in confusion for a moment when stepping over the museum threshold. Just a moment ago, the path led across the medieval-looking grounds of Beeskow Castle, but now there is no longer much sign of the Middle Ages. The newly designed museum oder-spree, which will open in 2021, welcomes visitors with a very modern look. 

The clearly structured and friendly bright exhibition rooms with their text and photo panels and the shiny wooden floor defy all usual expectations and ideas of a local history museum. 

Collecting the present and looking to the past for developments and perspectives - the impetus for this motto was provided in 2017 by students of the Visual Communication course at the "Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin". 

Emerging from the regional history museum in Beeskow, with an extensive collection, the museum oder-spree sees itself today not only as a place of preservation, but above all as a place of work, learning and negotiation. Contemporary everyday culture and its backgrounds are explored. 

The exhibitions, which change annually, focus on the people who live in the district; their stories become tangible and tangible through selected objects. And these stories are as diverse and contradictory as the region between the Oder and Spree rivers. After all, the former socialist planned city of the GDR, Eisenhüttenstadt, is just as much a part of the district as the spa town of Bad Saarow. 
This year's exhibition "coming and going" also covers a wide range: from displaced people from what is now Poland, who have found a new home in Oder-Spree, to GDR contract workers from Vietnam and Mozambique and young people
leaving the region today. And what's the deal with the migratory birds that are increasingly overwintering here?



As a publication accompanying the exhibition and for further reading, the "kursbuch oder-spree" is available for purchase again this year - with impressive black-and-white portraits by photographer Andreas Batke. 

The museum shows objects related to the stories and combines them with historical objects from our collection.

And another tip: With the new museum workshop, the museum offers a meeting place for all those who want to keep the museum oder-spree alive with cheeky, subtle and profound ideas.
