Oderbruch Zoo is quite small, but is family-friendly atmosphere and the dedication of Zoo Director Peter Willberg have made it very popular in the region, amongst visitors from Berlin and in neighbouring Poland. The special history of the first “school zoo” in the GDR, overcoming Reunification, the cultural initiatives of the Zoo Director in terms of art exhibitions and contacts with Poland next door and repeated support from the EU for the further expansion of the zoo underline its importance for the region.
