It seems as if the sight of a man with a donkey on a lead releases something long buried in us all. Farmers, drivers, cyclists and locals – they all smiled at us. A trucker lowered his window, gave us a thumbs up, smiled and shouted: “What you’re doing is just great!” Cyclists stopped us and said: “It’s like a fairytale!” After you have got to know the donkeys, brushed them and saddled them up, we’ll show you how to guide them and explain the route; then we’ll give you your kit and you’re off.

Tip

1- to 3-hour donkey trek – long ears listening, children’s eyes sparkling, and the caravan gets going. First we go across asphalt, then we take a narrow field path to a hill with a view across the Uckerseen lakes. The scenery is breathtaking. And you won’t meet anyone else along the way. The air and the countryside belong to us alone. Then it’s time to unload the saddlebags and tie the donkey to a tree. The children conjure up salads, baguettes, fruit and cheese from the saddlebags.
Available: April to October, Friday/Saturday/Sunday (must be booked by telephone in advance)
