The area between the river Stromoder and the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler waterway is known as Polder and lies at the heart of the Lower Oder Valley National Park. Surrounded by dykes, the area is dotted by various backwaters of the Oder that make for incredible views to enjoy on a canoe tour.

A qualified canoeing guide for the national park will take you on your tour to help you to safely navigate the maze of waterways. Your guide will keep you informed and entertained, telling you about the special characteristics of Germany’s only wetland national park. Quiet visitors paddling noiselessly through the park may spot beavers, kingfishers, crested grebes, white-tailed eagles, grey herons and even black and common terns searching for food.

Both tours (7.2 kilometres and 11 kilometres) start at the water sports centre of Wassersport PCK Schwedt e. V. and take visitors across Fittesee, Meglitze, Alte Oder and back to the water sports centre via the canal. An overview map is available here.

The canoes must be carried across the dyke twice, but this is quite doable if you work as a team. There is a resting spot on both tours.

The 7.2 kilometre tour takes around 4 to 5 hours, and the 11 kilometre tour takes about 6 to 7 hours (the number of hours is intended as reference only, and the actual tour may take longer).

This canoe tour is possible between July 15 and November 14. Pre-booking is mandatory!
