Schwedt/Oder is located in the north-east of Brandenburg directly on the Polish border. The town was once the residence of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, a line of the Hohenzollern dynasty. Built based on a Dutch design, the town features a grid-shaped network of streets and baroque buildings. Unfortunately, this beautiful town complex did not emerge from the Second World War unscathed. Only a few historical buildings have survived. The Uckermärkischen Bühnen Schwedt theatre is now in the place where the palace of the margrave once stood. Every summer, the old Palace Park forms the picturesque backdrop for the Palace Park Festival.

You can find the Unteres Odertal National Park just outside the town. It is the only national park in Brandenburg and the only floodplain national park in Germany. Here, nature lovers can enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside or take a bicycle tour along the Oder-Neiße cycle path.
