Start / Finish: Schorfheide / Finowfurt Waterway Rest Area

Route: Finowfurt Waterway Rest Area, Finow Canal, Grafenbrück Lock

Tour Description

The tour starts at the Finowfurt Waterway Rest Area where you can hire canoes. From there, you’ll paddle leisurely westward along the Finowkanal. The calm waters and picturesque surroundings create a relaxed atmosphere. The tour takes you mostly through the Finowtal-Pregnitzfließ Nature Reserve. With a bit of luck, you might spot beavers and cranes here. About halfway through the route, you’ll pass the small Eisvogel Marina, and after 4 kilometers, you’ll reach your destination, the Grafenbrück Lock. This historic structure is currently undergoing renovation, so unfortunately, passing through the lock and going ashore are not possible. From here, you’ll take the same route back to Finowfurt at a leisurely pace. The 8-kilometer route is particularly suitable for family outings or beginners to canoeing.

Getting there:
  • Public Transport: From Berlin Hauptbahnhof, take the RE3 (Stralsund) to Eberswalde Bahnhof (approx. 30 minutes), then take bus 910 to Finowfurt Post (20 minutes)
  • By car: From Berlin via the A11 to Exit 12 (Finowfurt) and then take the B167 to your destination (approx. 45 minutes)

Navigation information: The historic locks on the Finowkanal have been undergoing renovation since 2020. The Grafenbrück lock is expected to remain closed until mid-2026.
