The bicycle route leads through small villages south of the twin town of Doberlug-Kirchhain. The present-day cultural landscape was created thanks to the work of the monks more than 800 years ago. As a memorial to this, life-size wooden sculptures created by Roland Karl were erected in the villages on the initiative of the nature park. There used to be numerous windmills and water mills in the region. The varied landscape with ponds, meadows and forests is the habitat of many rare animal and plant species.

Route: Doberlug-Kirchhain (monastery church) – Bad Erna – Lindena – Gruhno – Friedersdorf – Oppelhain – Gorden – Fischwasser – Lugau – Doberlug-Kirchhain – Siedlung Schulz – Doberlug-Kirchhain (monastery church)

Nature along the way: Naturschutzgebiet Buchwald nature reserve, Kleine Elster River, Bad Erna local recreation area and “Zinswiesen”, which were meadows that owners used to lease to farmers in return for a rent. The owner in this case was probably the Cistercian monastery

Marking: Glacial erratics with transparent information panels in some places indicating the route
