The village church is part of the village centre of Blankenfelde. Built in the style of a typical small village centred around a village green, the old farmsteads were grouped around the village green where the church and the village forge are found. The church originally dates back to the Middle Ages. An exact construction date can no longer be determined. Several architectural periods can be identified in the building itself. As with many other churches, the window opening was expanded or newly built during the baroque period.

In 1978, the church was almost entirely destroyed by fire due to a building defect. Only the cobblestone walls remained. By 1981, the church could once again be consecrated thanks to many diligent helpers. The striking half-timbered church tower was extensively renovated in 2018 because of damage to the wood. 

The church is usually open for service on Sundays and public holidays at 10 a.m.
