Nennhausen Palace is Baroque structure that was built in 1737. In 1780, the Baroque park was redesigned according to the English style – one of the first landscape parks in Brandenburg. In 1803, Caroline von Briest married the well-known Romantic poet Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, who lived in Nennhausen until 1833. It was here that he wrote the famous fairy-tale novella Undine. The palace was given its Gothic form in 1860 – this is still clearly recognisable today. The building was privatised after 1990 and underwent thorough restoration. The valuable stucco ornaments on the fireplaces and walls can be seen in their original colours. The palace is regularly used as a venue for concerts and readings. The park is perfect for walks, and the former guests of the Fouqués’ “Court of the Muses” are shown in the form of clay medallions. There is an amply-sized holiday apartment available in the orangery which sleeps 4.
