The starting point is Potsdam Central Station. From here, the route heads into the historic centre to the Old Market, which was once redesigned in the style of an Italian piazza. The route takes you along Breite Straße, past the Steam Engine House – whose distinctive architecture is almost reminiscent of a mosque – and on towards Sanssouci Park.

Here, the full splendour unfolds: Charlottenhof Palace with its Italianate flair, the park’s sweeping vistas and, in the distance, the striking dome of the New Palace. The route continues along Voltaireweg to the Russian colony of Alexandrowka, before leading into the New Garden. There, Frederick William II had the Marble Palace built as a classical summer residence – situated directly on the water and surrounded by nature.

Passing Heiligen See and Cecilienhof Palace, the venue of the 1945 Potsdam Conference, the tour leads back into the city centre. The Dutch Quarter invites you to linger once more along the way, before heading back to the main station.

Duration: approx. 2.5 hours

Length: approx. 16 km

Start/Destination: Old Market
