The Neuer Markt, or New Market, is regarded as one of the most attractive squares in Potsdam, the capital city of the federal state of Brandenburg, and one of the best-preserved Baroque ensembles in Europe. Most of its buildings date back to the 18th century.

Bourgeois houses, erected under the reign of Frederick the Great, form the northern part of the market. Neuer Markt No. 1, to the east, the Kabinetthaus, was built on behalf of Frederick the Great in 1753. At the old weigh house in the center of the market the authorities weighed the carriages and levied the taxes on goods transported through or sold in the city.

The representative building to the west with its early neoclassical façade, with the wide archway and the quadriga used to be the stables of the royal coach horses. Now it hosts the House of Brandenburg and Prussian History. The quadriga shows Frederick the Greats highly appreciated coachman Pfund.
