The Belvedere on Pfingstberg was planned by Frederick William IV as a huge complex with terraces, cascades and colonnades. Italian Renaissance villas served as models. During the two construction phases from 1847 to 1852 and from 1861 to 1863, architects Ludwig Persius, Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse and Friedrich August Stüler only constructed the double tower complex. It encloses the inner courtyard with a water basin surrounded by arcades, colonnades and galleries. From here you entre two galleries in Moorish and Roman-Pompeian style. Open stairs lead to the roof of the gate hall which offers a view of a courtyard framed by wing walls with a lawn parterre and arcades, and also the Temple of Pomona.
