The home of the writer and doctor and his wife Else is a museum as well as being used as a vibrant venue for readings, discussions, exhibitions and other encounters. As an individual monument, the memorial is also part of a listed estate where guided tours are offered that tell of its dark past: it was built by prisoners from Sachsenhausen concentration camp.

The popular and well-known animal story Die Weihnachtsgans Auguste (“Auguste the Christmas Goose”) is also where the Oranienburg Christmas market gets its name from – namely the Weihnachtsgans Auguste Market: this takes place on the 3rd Sunday in Advent at Schlossplatz.
