Lake Dolgensee is the first of a small chain of lakes which runs from the south across Kesselsee and Lettinsee to Klostersee. Lake Dolgensee is fed by a 600-metre channel which springs in a wetland area on Ringwalder Heide and flows into the south-western part of the lake. Lake Dolgensee covers a surface area of more than 30 hectares and is completely surrounded by forest, with wetlands at the southern end. Here, the lake – which is three metres deep on average – becomes shallower and shallower, and in the south-western corner the water is barely more than 50 centimetres deep with a muddy bed. On the eastern shore there is a holiday home estate so the lake is more frequented in the summer months. The fish population is mainly composed of the following species: eel, perch, pike, carp, tench, whitefish, catfish, zander. There are several bathing spots on the lake, which are frequently used by anglers.
