This comfortable city tour through Fürstenwalde combines exploration with a variety of cultural and historical impressions. The tour starts right at the train station, leads through the structured city centre with its well-developed paths and takes in important sights such as St. Mary's Cathedral, the market square, the Fürstenwalde Museum and the Spree promenade. The route is largely step-free, easily accessible and offers regular places to stop and rest. This makes it particularly suitable for people with limited mobility, older people and families with prams.

Start/finish: Fürstenwalde railway station

Length/duration: approx. 3 km/approx. 1.5 to 2 hours

Arrival/departure by public transport:
  • Arrival: Take the RE1 from Berlin or Frankfurt (Oder) to Fürstenwalde (Spree) station; from there, you can start the tour via barrier-free paths.
  • Departure: Return journey also with the RE1 from Fürstenwalde (Spree)

Route description

The tour begins at Fürstenwalde railway station, which has barrier-free access. The route leads along Eisenbahnstraße towards the town centre to the market square with its historic town hall. The tourist information office is located there, which is barrier-free and offers city maps and regional products. Opposite is a tactile model of the town centre, which enables visually impaired visitors to find their way around with ease.

From here, it is only a short, flat walk to St. Mary's Cathedral – a central highlight of the tour. The cathedral is accessible via a ramp, and there are also barrier-free access points inside. The city museum is located in the immediate vicinity and is well worth a visit. In addition to the permanent exhibition on the city's history, there are also exhibits on the manufacture of navigation marks and regional crafts. An outdoor lapidarium complements the offerings on paved paths.

The route then continues along the Spree promenade, which is equipped with benches and offers an unobstructed view of the water. The city park is reached via the cathedral bridge. The path there is completely flat and leads through green surroundings with seating and rest areas. The nearby Martingarten and playgrounds – e.g. at Goetheplatz – offer additional recreational opportunities, especially for families with children.

Finally, we recommend a visit to the brewery museum in the Old Town Hall. The exhibition is partially accessible at ground level and offers interactive insights into local brewing history in the historic vaulted cellar. The tour can end here or lead back to the station along the familiar route.

Good to know

  • Seating in the city park, on the Spree and in the city centre
  • Tactile model for orientation opposite the tourist information office
