The chapel was built in 1904 as a sanatorium chapel for the Heilstätten Hohenlychen facility that was established in 1902. The steeple is still home to the 3 bells made in Bochum by Verein Bochum in 1904. Following the sanatorium’s occupation by the Soviet army in 1945, the chapel was used as a fuel warehouse.

The friends’ association for the church arranges for the building to be gradually renovated. It also holds the annual event Hohenlychener Kultursommer with exhibitions and concerts in the chapel.
