Explore industrial history

Mining and coal production have shaped the region for over 150 years. The ENERGIE Route offers an exciting journey through time dedicated to historic landmarks of industrial culture. How about a Jeep or quad safari to the opencast mine in Welzow? Lots of fun guaranteed!

The individual stops along the ENERGIE Route can be approached via regional bike routes, e.g. on the Niederlausitzer Bergbautour, the Seenland-Route or the transregional Fürst-Pückler-Radweg.

Scenic overlooks like the "Rostiger Nagel", the “Landmarke Lausitzer Seenland” at Sedlitzer See (lake) or the "Schiefer Turm" at Senftenberger See offer fascinating views of the developing lake territory. Don't miss visiting the F60 – the former overburden conveyor bridge and visitor mine.

From Guben to the Neiße River landscape

Aside from the town of Forst, also Guben – located further down the Neiße River and one of the oldest towns of Lower Lusatia – used to be an important centre of East Germany's textile industry. Even fashion items such as hats used to go into production here. Heritage buildings like the Alte Färberei (old dyeworks), manufacturers’ villas, and the industrial museum (Industriemuseum) vividly attest to the local history.

Today, the town is a charming twin town in the border region to Poland and an ideal starting point for bike or canoeing tours to the recreational Neiße River region. The Neiße River surroundings are serene and unspoilt – a place where canoeists can be by themselves.
