Long before Paretz caught the attention of the film industry, this village with an idyllic location evidently made a great impression on Theodor Fontane. The poet describes the Havelland village of Paretz in great detail in his ‘Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg’. Even before this the place was already a country idyll that attracted Louise, queen of Prussia, and her husband Crown Prince Frederick William III to spend six weeks of the summer here each year between 1797 and 1804 to enjoy the bourgeois family lifestyle.

Paretz Palace was built in the style of a large manor house and forms a harmonious ensemble with the Palace Park, the church and other buildings. Walking through the village and its cobblestone streets and past the ochre-coloured facades of the old farm buildings, it feels reminiscent of a traditional English village. It's no wonder, either: This was the original inspiration when building Paretz.

Just a few metres away from the castle lies the Rosenvilla, which has become a popular shooting location in Brandenburg. In 2007 scenes from Til Schweiger’s ‘Rabbit Without Ears’ were shot here, and two years later the sequel ‘Rabbit Without Ears 2’. The Rosenvilla doubled as the creche where Anna (played by Nora Tschirner) works in the two films. Both comedies also feature Matthias Schweighöfer, Armin Rohde and Jürgen Vogel in the other lead roles.
