The gentle and slightly hilly landscape of Lower Lusatia with its many lakes is ideal for skating. The area around Lake Senftenberger See is popular with holidaymakers. The skating track extends almost all the way around the lake and is both well developed and asphalted. It leads along the Spremberg Dam, the Großer Heide and the Bühlower Heide heathlands and through pine forests with unique views of the lake.
Start: Selessen, bus stop
Finish: Spremberg railway station
Length: 48 kilometres, there and back
Route: Sellessen - Bräsinchen - Bühlow - Spremberg
Surface: good, in Bräsinchen about 250 metres unpaved.
Difficulty level: Eastern route: easy (some slight ups and downs), western route: difficult. Caution is advised after Bräsinchen on the north shore with gradients, winding roads and fast, oncoming cyclists. Please keep to the right here. The path through the forest above the dam, west of Bräsinchen, is partially damaged by tree roots.
How to get there:
  • Train: Take the RE2 (Berlin-Cottbus) to Cottbus central station, then bus 100 to Spremberg bus station followed by bus 180 to Sellessen.
  • Car: Take the A15 followed by the B97 to Spremberg or the A13 followed by the B156 to Spremberg. From Spremberg take the L47 to Weskow and continue to Sellessen.

Points of interest along the route:

  • Spremberg Castle, home to the “Niederlausitzer Heidemuseum”
  • Bismarck Tower in the town park on the Georgenberg with a view over the entire city
  • Spremberg’s Kreuzkirche church, venue of the annual Music Summer festival
  • Adventure pool
