You cannot miss the open space of the Otto-Braun-Platz when you cross the Lange Brücke bridge from Potsdam Central Railway Station. At the edge of the square a new tree has now been planted in memory of the tree destroyed during the war – the Petition linden tree. This tree has a long tradition dating back to the Prussian kings. From his study in the Stadtschloss city palace, the winter residence of the margraves and kings, Frederick the Great could look over at what became known as the “Petition linden tree”. People attached their letters of request on its branches.
