The history of the venerable aristocratic family of the Gans Edle Herren zu Putlitz began in the 10th to 12th centuries with the conquest of the Prignitz territories by the Knight Johannes. They founded the towns of Wittenberge, Perleberg, Putlitz and the Cistercian Monastery of Marienfließ and built numerous churches. The Gänsetour Cycle Path follows in the footsteps of the noble lords Gans Edle Herren zu Putlitz along the River Stepenitz, past the gentlemanly palaces, half-timbered churches, rural palaces and manor houses. Cyclists will be enchanted by the romantic countryside and the dreamy homes where more than just geese lived.
