Opposite the Steinhöfel Palace stands the Altes Amtshaus, which was built in 1790 by David Gilly: it is the only one of this architect’s works to have been preserved virtually entirely in its original state. David Gilly is one of the so-called “Brandenburger Köpfe” – outstanding personalities from the Brandenburg region – and is considered an innovator in the field of building culture. The building is purely classicistic in design and served as the official administrative seat of the Steinhöfel estate up until 1945. After an eventful history, large parts of it are now open to the public and it is used by owner Gabriela Behnke as a gallery with alternating exhibitions as well as housing an exchange library and an ice cream parlour.
