The church and the associated rectory were built in 1934/35 according to designs by the Berlin architect Josef Bachem. The new building became necessary because the number of Catholics, most of whom worked in the brick and cement industry and in agriculture, was constantly increasing. To enhance the church's simple furnishings, Cardinal Meisner donated a Madonna and Child carved from Swiss pine during his visit in 1983.
