The parish of Jänschwalde is one of the oldest in the Cottbus area, with documentary evidence dating back as far as 1346. The village church was not built until the 19th century, however: it dates back to 1806. The Classicistic hall-type structure consists of plastered brickwork with a hipped roof. Above the rectangular windows there are semi-circular upper windows.

Next to the church there is a wooden bell house. The sound of the three bronze bells is remarkable: they are among the oldest in the Cottbus church district. The largest bell was cast in the 15th century, the middle bell bears the date 1515 in an inscription and the third bell dates from 1596.

The interior of the church is very inelaborate, including a flat, plastered ceiling. There is a pulpit altar on the eastern side. On all other walls there are galleries. The western gallery has a small organ by Heinze of Sorau dating from around 1900. The baptismal font dates from 1646. The pews date from the construction period.
