The water district of South-East Brandenburg with its beautiful rivers, idyllic lakes and a unique landscape could not be any different to the vibrant metropolis of Berlin and it will make you forget the city’s hustle and bustle in seconds. You can explore the tranquillity of the pristine countryside with its wide meadows, fairytale forests and charming riverbanks on an eleven-day tour of Brandenburg’s waters from the north-eastern edge of Berlin to the Spreewald forest in the south.

Berlin-Fürstenwalde

Many consider Berlin to be the ideal starting point and one of the highlights of the tour. The Spree runs through the centre of Berlin, past the new government district and through the city’s historical centre. Along the Oder-Spree Canal, the route then takes you from Berlin’s city border through seemingly endless forests towards the River Oder. Fürstenwalde is a stunning town for an on-shore outing.

Fürstenwalde - Beeskow

You can admire the most beautiful side of the conservation area along the river Spree right from the start. Start your day by enjoying the unspoilt river banks, lush meadows and dense reed belts with their animal life. Two locks and a boat hoist will make for your first adventures along the route. You cross the Spree to get to the Drahendorfer Spree and then to the Spreepark in Beeskow.

Beeskow - Schwielochsee

The Spree has a very unspoilt appearance on this stretch that will remind you of the impressive views you have been enjoying over the past few days. If you continue directly towards Lake Schwielochsee, you will cross Lake Leißnitzer See and the smaller Lake Glower See as you continue southwards.

The northern tip of lovely Lake Schwielochsee is located near Trebatsch and at the final stage of your journey you can turn into the lake once more to experience the full scale of the popular water sports destination.

On-shore outings:
  • Beeskow: Castle, historic centre
  • Fürstenwalde/Spree: Palace

Waterway profile: Diverse; Spree with its many tributaries and oxbow lakes, low current on the Dahme and Spree (possibly stronger on the Spree in spring), boating and berthing are banned on the tributaries and oxbow lakes of the Spree, 12 locks
