Plans were first drawn up in the 1920s to build a church for the Catholic community in Eberswalde. It was to accommodate about 600 people and was finally consecrated in 1934. The unique church architecture is a sight to behold.

A church without a church tower? - The need to save money was certainly a decisive factor too. The ban on building church towers by the Bonifatiusverein association, which funded many church projects at that time, demanded alternative solutions.

Various designs were submitted and even tried out – using a form of “diaspora building type”. But architect Josef Bachem solved the problem of not having a tower in a different way.

He created a stepped graduation of the structure comparable to that of St. Joseph in Lindow, which was built significantly earlier however, or Herz Jesu in Reppen/Rzepin, which was built at the same time.
