A place where fairytale weddings are held! This villa was built by Johann-Friedrich Dictus, the son of a wool manufacturer from Berlin. He had the park around his representative country home very artistically developed from 1836 onwards, and designed it with lots of fairytale-like sculptures. The country home itself was renamed from ‘Dictus-Park’ to ‘Villa Märchen’, and later as Märchenvilla, which means ‘Fairytale Villa’.

After an eventful history the villa was reopened on October 29, 2004 by its new owner, EWE AG, and saved from becoming derelict. The extensively renovated and artfully restored building is a magnificent and representative classicist gem.

Since November 1, 2004 it has been home to the registry office in Eberswalde with a stunning wedding chamber and a historic ballroom that can be rented out for wedding parties. In 2014 the Märchenvilla was voted Germany’s most beautiful registry office by a jury of experts.

Nice to know: In summer you can enjoy mild evenings here with classical concerts.
