Boat rental: There are various boat rental services in Schmöckwitz, Eichwalde and Zeuthen.

Length/duration: 14  kilometres (1 day)

Start/finish: Eichwalde, lakeside meadow

How to get there:
  • Public transport: Take the RE5 (Elsterwerda) from Berlin central station to Berlin Südkreuz. From here, take the S46 (Königs Wusterhausen) regional train to Eichwalde (about 45 minutes).
  • Car: From Berlin, take the A100, A113 and B96 to Eichwalde (about 45 minutes).

Route description: The tour’s starting point is the Eichwalde lakeside meadow on Lake Zeuthener See. Go in a southerly direction, passing Rauchfangswerder Nord on the left, and Eichwalde and Zeuthen on the right until you get to the southern tip of Rauchfangswerder. You go around the peninsula in a northerly direction into Lake Großer Zug. You pass Ziegenhals and reach Lake Krossinsee. On the lakeside you will find mooring facilities, bathing areas, a surf school as well as eateries.

At the northern end of the lake, by Wernsdorf, there is a bay with a popular bathing area with snack bar and bathroom facilities. On the right, you find the Wernsdorf lock and in front of you, Lake Wernsdorfer See, which is an idyllic nature conservation area. You enter the Oder-Spree Canal and reach Lake Seddinsee. Go along the left-hand shore past several bathing areas and the jetties of several water sports clubs until you reach the Schmöckwitzer Bridge. Your starting point is under that bridge.

Detour: From the Schmöckwitz waterway junction you can travel in all directions: south towards Königs Wusterhausen and the Teupitz waters, east across Lake Seddinsee and the Müggelspree section of the Spree to Hangelsberg and Fürstenwalde, north through Lake Seddinsee into the Rüdersdorfer waters and west, along the Dahme, to Köpenick and then on to Berlin.

Nautical information: Easy canoe tour suitable for families
