With six lakes, a hill with observation tower and the beautiful heath landscape of the Köthener Heide heath, this hike offers plenty of variety and is absolutely ideal for nature lovers. The view from the observation tower on the Wehlaberg hill on sunny days is worth the walk. The climb is rewarded by a view as far as Berlin.

Start/finish: Köthen village square

How to get there:
Public transport: From Berlin Ostkreuz station, take the RB24, direction Senftenberg, as far as Halbe. From Halbe, continue with the 725 bus, direction Hermsdorf (near Münchehofe) as far as Köthen. There are no buses between Halbe and Köthen at the weekend.

Car: Leave Berlin southwards via the A113 and from the Schönefelder Kreuz continue on the A13 towards Cottbus / Dresden as far as the Teupitz junction. From there, continue on the L74 via Märkisch Buchholz to Köthen.

Parking: Parking in front of Köthen youth hostel

Route: Köthen, Pichersee, Mittelsee, Schwanensee, Wehlaberg, Alte Oderiner Strasse, Neuköthen, Schibingsee, Großer Wehrigsee, Triftsee, Köthen

Route description: The hiking trail starts and finishes in Köthen. Walkers on the circular trail will explore the Köthen heath landscape with its little hills and lakes.

This is a relatively quiet stretch that runs along several lakes. The route is also suitable for walks with the dog.

Possible combinations:
  • The European Long-Distance Path through the Dahme-Seenland
  • Stage 8: “Paul-Gerhardt-Weg” von Märkisch Buchholz – Schlepzig
  • 13th stage “66-Seen-Wanderweg”: Spreewaldecken mit Sahnehäubchen
  • Köthener Heideseen hiking trail
