The Schwarze Elster River is a lowland river that is ideal for paddling. Our tour travels 23 kilometres along the river from Bad Liebenwerda to Herzberg. Along the way, there are well-equipped landing stages and rest areas from Bad Liebenwerda to Uebigau and further on to Herzberg.

Start: Bad Liebenwerda

Finish: Herzberg (Elster)

How to get there:
  • Public transport: Take the RE3 regional express train from Berlin central station to Falkenberg / Elster. From here, take the S4 (Ruhland) rapid transit train to Bad Liebenwerda (about 2 hours).
  • Car: Take the A13 motorway and B87 from Berlin to Bad Liebenwerda (about 2 hours).


Return journey:

  • Public transport: From Herzberg, take the RE3 (Stralsund) regional express train to Berlin central station (about 1.5 hours).
  • Car: Take the RE3 (Elsterwerda-Biehla) regional express train from Herzberg to Bad Liebenwerda to your car (about 30 minutes).


Route: Bad Liebenwerda, Neumühl, München, Bomsdorf, Neudeck, Kleinrössen, Herzberg (Elster)

On-shore outings:

  • Bad Liebenwerda: Bieligkhof farm and Wonnemar leisure complex
  • Neumühl: Elsterstübchen café and a hydropower plant
  • Neudeck: Castle
  • Herzberg: Elsterpark adventure park
