Until 1979, the mill was operated as a grist mill and continued to be privately used until 1998, but is now under monument protection. Although the mill is over 800 years old, you can visit the former water mill, which is located directly on the Kleine Elster river, which is still in working order.

According to the records of the town archive of Wahrenbrück, it was first mentioned around 1248, probably as a flour mill, then around 1320 as the first iron hammer in Germany, and then once again as a flour mill in 1343. From 1696 to 1858, the mill was used as a paper mill and then once again as a flour and grist mill.

In summer, visitors are served home-made cakes and delicious coffee in the courtyard of the mill.

Wahrenbrück Historic Windmill is a stop on the Kohle-Wind & Wasser-Tour (Coal, Wind & Water Tour).

The mill can be visited on request. Please book your visit in advance!
